The bulletin. The Holy See Press Office today, 15 October, issued a communication to journalists on Leo XIV's post-operative course, signed by Dr Luigi Carbone and Prof. Stefano Margaritora.

The text. "This morning the Holy Father underwent routine checks, which were normal. The chest X-ray showed good recovery of the operated lung. He carried out his daily activities independently. The physiotherapy session involved full motor activity. Overall, the post-operative course is proceeding regularly."

What it says. The doctors point to four elements: routine checks within normal limits, recovery of the operated lung documented by the X-ray, independence in daily activities and physiotherapy with full motor activity. Their overall assessment is that recovery is proceeding regularly.

Other voices. Earlier in the day the Pope's personal secretary, Msgr. Edgar Rimaycuna, in a message to Fr. Carlos Samamé, a parish priest in Chiclayo (Peru), described Leo XIV as "very serene". This was a private message made public by its recipient, not an official statement.

What we don't know. The bulletin gives no date for discharge from the Gemelli hospital and no changes to the Pope's schedule. Any further information will be reported only on the basis of official sources.
