Audience with the Conference for the 150th anniversary of the Gregorian's Faculty of Canon Law. This morning, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, Pope Leo XIV received the participants in the International Conference promoted by the Pontifical Gregorian University, under way from 20 to 24 October. In his address, delivered in Italian, the Pope recalled that the Faculty was established on 16 August 1876 "at the behest of Blessed Pius IX" and pointed to its Ignatian roots, summed up in the expression "Non multa, sed multum". The Faculty's aim, he said, is also "to form people who possess an ecclesial sense of the iustum". Quoting the Faculty's Programme of Studies, according to which "Church law must always be directed towards the supernatural good of the individual faithful and the edification of ecclesial communion", the Pope urged the pursuit of "true justice, which in the Church is never separated from truth and mercy". He also invited the Faculty to offer students "a living experience of the universal Church, which finds in the Bishop of Rome the perpetual and visible principle and foundation of unity".
