Today's Holy See Press Office Bulletin, Sunday 25 October, so far contains two communications: the Pope's words at the recitation of the Angelus (N. 0836, Bulletin, Italian) and a resignation and succession (N. 0837, Bulletin, Italian).

The Pope's words at the Angelus. At noon, on the Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Pope Leo XIV appeared at the window of his study in the Apostolic Palace to pray the Angelus with the faithful in Saint Peter's Square. Commenting on the Gospel of the greatest commandment (Mt 22:34-40), he said: "Indeed, one cannot love 'on command.' Love for God is the very essence of human desire, which finds its fulfillment in communion with him." He added: "We cannot truly love God unless this love overflows into love for our brothers and sisters." He quoted Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus: "Love alone" makes "the Church's members act". The appeals after the Angelus. The Pope said he is "following with concern the grave humanitarian situation in Yemen, particularly in the city of Taiz" and appealed "for hostilities to cease". He offered prayers for the victims of "the terrorist attack on worshippers at the Orthodox Church of Saint George in Hamoud, Jordan". He invited everyone to join in spirit with the religious leaders who will gather in Assisi on 27 October for the 40th anniversary of the meeting convened by Saint John Paul II: "Never before has it been so clear that wars, as well as sowing death and destruction, impoverish and harm the world."

Resignation and succession of the archbishop of Fianarantsoa, Madagascar. The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Fianarantsoa presented by Fulgence Rabemahafaly. He is succeeded by Jean Nicolas Rakotojaona, hitherto coadjutor archbishop of the same archdiocese (our translation; no official English text yet). Born on 18 January 1973 in Anosy Avaratra, ordained a priest in 2002 for the archdiocese of Antananarivo, he was auxiliary bishop of Morondava from 2023 and coadjutor of Fianarantsoa from 25 October 2025. Appointments published by the Press Office are collected in the Appointments section.
